Plain-Chant Grégorien (Liturgie Pascale - Cycle De Noël)

Released in 1953 by Columbia, this recording of Gregorian chant features the Schola des Pères du Saint-Esprit de Chevilly. Produced during a period of renewed academic and religious interest in early liturgical music, the album served to preserve and disseminate the austere beauty of the Roman Catholic tradition. It highlights the monastic tradition of vocal prayer, which gained significant cultural visibility through recordings intended to bring the atmosphere of sacred space into the domestic sphere.

The album's design and curation reflect the mid-century commitment of labels like Columbia to archive formal, high-fidelity classical and liturgical performances. The Schola were recognized for their dedication to authentic interpretation, aiming to capture the modal purity of the plainchant repertoire. Upon its release, the record was received as a definitive sonic document of liturgical practice, prized by both musicologists and the faithful for its meditative quality and the disciplined vocal technique of the Chevilly community.
