Pot of Greed

Pot of Greed was first released in the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, serving as one of the most iconic and powerful spell cards in the franchise's history. Its design features the grinning, clay-like vessel that has become a recognizable mascot for the game, representing the simple yet high-impact mechanic of drawing two cards from the deck. The card is a direct adaptation from the original Japanese manga and anime, where it was utilized by various characters to gain a decisive advantage in duels.

The specific version released as SD2-EN017 debuted in the 2005 Structure Deck: Zombie Madness. While the card began as a staple in almost every competitive deck due to its lack of cost or restriction, it was eventually banned in official tournament play for many years because it provided an overwhelming statistical advantage. The design, characterized by its minimalist effect text and distinctive face, remains a central piece of trading card game lore and pop culture iconography.
