Евгений Мравинский - Чайковский: Симфония №5; Брамс: Симфония №2 / Evgeny Mravinsky - Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5; Brahms: Symphony No. 2

This collection release captures performances by the legendary conductor Evgeny Mravinsky, who served as the principal conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra for half a century. These recordings reflect his rigorous approach to the Russian symphonic tradition, characterized by meticulous articulation, structural clarity, and a profound, disciplined intensity that defined the Leningrad sound during the mid-20th century.

The 2003 release under the Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga Muzyka label serves as a retrospective compilation of Mravinsky's authoritative interpretations of Tchaikovsky and Brahms. Mravinsky's reading of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony is particularly renowned for its architectural precision and emotional restraint, a marked departure from the more sentimental interpretations of the era. The inclusion of Brahms further highlights his versatility, showcasing his ability to apply the same structural integrity to the German Romantic repertoire.
