Where it came from
This 2-euro commemorative coin was issued by Andorra in 2019 to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the General Council of the Valleys. The Council, established in 1419, serves as the parliament of Andorra and stands as one of the oldest representative institutions in Europe. This issuance honors the historical continuity of Andorran self-governance and its unique position as a parliamentary co-principality.
The design features a prominent artistic representation of the General Council building, known as the Casa de la Vall, which has served as the parliamentary seat since the early 18th century. The composition includes decorative elements that evoke the dignity of the institution and the mountainous landscape of the Pyrenees. As is standard for Andorran commemoratives, the design was subject to approval by the authorities of the co-princes, reflecting the nation's commitment to numismatic quality and its distinct cultural heritage.
