Where it came from
The Air Elemental from the Summer Magic set, internally code-named Edgar, was produced in 1994 as a corrected replacement for the Revised Edition of the Magic: The Gathering card game. Following widespread complaints regarding the washed-out colors and printing errors in the Revised base set, Wizards of the Coast commissioned a limited print run to address these aesthetic shortcomings and maintain brand quality.
Designed by Christopher Rush, the Air Elemental features an iconic ethereal depiction that aligns with the elemental aesthetic established in the game's earliest years. Because the Summer Magic print run was intended to be the official Revised replacement but was ultimately recalled and largely destroyed due to internal distribution errors, this specific version is recognized today as one of the rarest iterations of the card in the hobby.
