Terror was originally released as a common card in the 1994 Magic: The Gathering set Edgar, commonly known as Summer Magic. This specific print run was intended to replace a damaged inventory of Revised Edition cards, but due to a series of distribution errors and production delays, the set was never officially released to the general public. Instead, a small portion of the stock inadvertently made its way into circulation, making these cards some of the most sought-after rarities in the history of the game.

The artwork for this version was provided by Ron Spencer, whose gritty, visceral style became synonymous with the game's early aesthetic. Spencer’s illustration for Terror leans into the dark fantasy roots of the genre, depicting the immediate and destructive finality of the spell. While the card mechanics were standard for black-aligned instant spells of the era, the unique production history of the Summer Magic set transformed this specific printing into a prized artifact for collectors of early card gaming history.
