Where it came from
The Bird token was released in 2018 as part of the Guilds of Ravnica Guild Kit, a collection designed to celebrate the history of the plane of Ravnica in Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were included specifically to support gameplay mechanics associated with the Azorius Senate, representing the flying creatures often summoned by Azorius-aligned decks to enforce the laws of the city-plane.
The artwork for this token features the clean, structured aesthetic characteristic of the Azorius guild, emphasizing order and vigilance. Created during a period when Wizards of the Coast was expanding the thematic depth of its guild-based products, the illustration was intended to provide a functional and atmospheric visual aid for players, receiving positive feedback for its consistency with the established visual language of Ravnica.
