Centaur

The Centaur token, numbered 11 in the Modern Masters 2017 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast as a supplemental inclusion within booster packs. These tokens were designed to serve as physical representations of creature spells or abilities created by cards within the set, providing players with a convenient way to track the board state during games of Magic: The Gathering. The set itself was curated to celebrate the game's deep history, featuring reprints of cards spanning numerous previous expansions, which necessitated the inclusion of updated token art to maintain visual consistency for the modern era.

The artwork for this particular Centaur was rendered to align with the distinct aesthetic identity established for the Modern Masters series, which sought to balance functional clarity with evocative fantasy illustration. As a non-collectible component of the booster experience, these tokens were intended for utility rather than scarcity. They were received primarily as helpful tools for tournament players, valued for their durability and the professional polish that characterized the updated visual language of the 2017 release.
