Provenance

Where it came from

The Centaur token was released as part of the Ravnica Allegiance set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in 2019. It was designed to function as a representative marker for players who cast spells that create Centaur creature tokens, specifically those generated by the card 'Biogenic Upgrade' or other Selesnya-aligned mechanics within that block's lore. These tokens serve a practical role in gameplay, providing a physical reference for the battlefield state during matches.

The artwork for this particular iteration was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, known for his dynamic and fantasy-driven style. Ejsing focused on capturing the rugged, tribal aesthetic of the Ravnican centaurs, emphasizing their connection to the nature-centric Selesnya Conclave. The illustration was received as a standard but aesthetically cohesive addition to the set, blending seamlessly with the broader visual language established for the Ravnica plane's inhabitants.
