Where it came from
The Elephant token, numbered 12 in the Modern Masters 2017 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast as a supplemental component for the limited-run reprint set. These tokens are designed to represent creatures created by spells or abilities within the game, serving as functional gameplay aids rather than collectible cards with traditional rarity, though they remain sought after by players completing set ensembles.
The art for this specific token was illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, a frequent contributor to Magic: The Gathering. His design emphasizes a sturdy, powerful aesthetic that aligns with the mechanical function of an Elephant token, typically used to represent a 3/3 creature. The piece was received well for its distinct, painterly style, which helped distinguish the Modern Masters series' visual identity from standard expansion releases.
