Control Magic

Control Magic was originally introduced in the 1994 Alpha set, serving as one of the quintessential blue enchantment cards that allows a player to gain control of an opponent's creature. The design reflects the color identity of blue during the early years of Magic: The Gathering, where manipulating the board state through theft and redirection was a primary strategic goal. The card has seen numerous reprints over the decades due to its status as a staple for limited formats and casual play, often appearing in introductory decks and thematic collections.

The version from Commander Anthology, released in 2017, features the digital artwork by Terese Nielsen that was first commissioned for the Urza's Destiny expansion. Nielsen’s aesthetic approach focused on a clean, ethereal style that balanced the chaotic nature of mind control with a sense of refined magical discipline. Within the context of the Commander Anthology box set, the card was included to provide players with a reliable, classic removal option that could swing the momentum of multiplayer games, maintaining its relevance for veteran players and newcomers alike.
