Control Magic

Control Magic was originally introduced in the Alpha edition of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, representing the classic blue-aligned ability to seize control of an opponent's creature. The version featured in the 2013 Commander set serves as a functional reprint designed for the multiplayer-focused format, allowing players to incorporate this essential utility into their preconstructed decks. Its inclusion reflects Wizards of the Coast’s strategy of providing staple cards to a new generation of players, ensuring that fundamental tactical mechanics remain accessible within the evolving game ecosystem.

This specific iteration features artwork by Greg Staples, who provides a thematic interpretation of the enchantment’s core effect. Staples’ illustration emphasizes the psychological and arcane manipulation inherent in the spell, moving away from the more abstract representations seen in earlier versions of the card. Upon its release in the Commander 2013 suite, the card was well-received by players for its balance of nostalgia and utility, maintaining its status as a reliable board-state manipulator that rewards strategic patience and resource management.
