Culling Ritual

Culling Ritual was originally introduced in the Strixhaven: School of Mages set in 2021 as a rare sorcery card representing the dark, competitive academic traditions of the Witherbloom college. The card features a mechanical design that punishes opponents for playing low-cost permanents, serving as a powerful board wipe specifically tuned for Commander formats and other multiplayer environments where diverse casting costs are prevalent.

This particular printing arrives as part of the 2025 Wizards Play Network promotional series, which serves as a reward for local game stores and their active player communities. As is customary for these promotional releases, the design utilizes unique foil treatments and updated frame aesthetics to distinguish it from the original base set release, providing collectors with a refined visual iteration of a card that has become a staple in Golgari-aligned deck building.
