Where it came from
Demonic Tutor is a cornerstone card in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, originally released in the 1993 Alpha set. As a card that allows a player to search their library for any one card, it has long been considered one of the most powerful and iconic spells in the game's history. The Ultimate Box Topper version, numbered U8, was released in 2020 as part of the Double Masters set, featuring a distinct, large-art frame that pays homage to the card's enduring legacy.
The original illustration for Demonic Tutor was created by Douglas Shuler, whose dark and evocative depiction helped define the early aesthetic of the game. The Ultimate Box Topper variant utilizes this classic artwork but presents it in a premium, full-bleed frame design specifically intended for collectors. This iteration was received with significant enthusiasm by the player base, as it provided a sophisticated, visually elevated way to own one of the most mechanically essential cards in the history of the format.
