What it does
Whenever an opponent casts their first noncreature spell each turn, draw a card unless that player pays X mana, where X is this creature's power.
Action: Using the reference as inspiration, we'd like you to design a soldier who is a similar mix of flesh and etherium (a magical metal found only on Esper).

Where it came from
Esper Sentinel was released in 2021 as part of the Modern Horizons 2 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, this card was created as a high-impact staple for Eternal formats like Modern and Commander, drawing inspiration from the artifice and aesthetic of the plane of Esper. It functions as a taxing effect that punishes opponents for playing non-creature spells, positioning it as a potent early-game defensive tool.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized his signature ethereal and detailed style to depict a sentinel construct. The design reflects the 'artifact creature' identity of the Esper shard, emphasizing a sleek, mechanical elegance that has resonated strongly with players. Upon its release, the card received critical acclaim within the community for its efficiency, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after and recognizable cards from the set.
