Where it came from
The Forest art card from the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Art Series was released in 2021 as part of a specialized subset of cards designed to showcase the vivid, atmospheric illustrations of the expansion. These cards were distributed exclusively in Collector Boosters, serving as a collectible tribute to the artists who define the visual identity of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. They are produced without game-functional backs, positioning them as art objects rather than pieces for competitive gameplay.
The illustration featured on this specific card is a haunting interpretation of the gothic-horror landscape inherent to the plane of Innistrad. The art direction emphasizes the somber, mist-laden aesthetic that Wizards of the Coast intended to convey during this return to the popular setting. By isolating the artwork from the traditional card frame, the series allows the viewer to focus entirely on the painterly techniques and moody color palettes employed by the artist to capture the dark, seasonal transition of the forest.
