Provenance

Where it came from

The Frog Lizard token was released in 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed to represent the specific creature created by the card Biogenic Upgrade and the planeswalker Kaya, Orzhov Usurper, providing a physical board state representation for players using these cards in their decks.

The illustration was crafted by artist Caio Monteiro, who was tasked with visualizing a creature that blends amphibian and reptilian features to fit the urban, gothic-fantasy aesthetic of the Ravnica plane. The token was well-received by the player community for its cohesive art style, which helped maintain immersion during gameplay while serving the practical function of tracking temporary creature permanents.
