What it does
1 generic mana, tap: Target creature gains banding until end of turn. (Any creatures with banding, and up to one without, can attack in a band. Bands are blocked as a group. If any creatures with banding a player controls are blocking or being blocked by a creature, that player divides that creature's combat damage, not its controller, among any of the creatures it's being blocked by or is blocking.)

Where it came from
The Helm of Chatzuk was originally released as a rare artifact card in the Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 1994. The set was conceived during a period of rapid experimentation for Wizards of the Coast, introducing a focus on unique legendary creatures and complex, flavor-heavy mechanics. The Helm was designed to evoke a sense of ancient, singular power, fitting into the high-fantasy aesthetic that defined early card sets.
The illustration for the card was created by artist Dan Frazier, whose distinctive, painterly style helped establish the visual identity of early Magic cards. Frazier’s work on the Helm aimed to convey a weathered, mystical relic rather than mere functional armor. While the card is often remembered for its niche role in gameplay, it remains a notable piece of the 30th Anniversary Edition, which served as a commemorative retrospective of the game's evolving art style and mechanical heritage.
