Provenance

Where it came from

Mana Short was first released in the 1994 International Collectors' Edition, a non-tournament-legal boxed set produced by Wizards of the Coast. Designed to showcase the game's original artwork and card mechanics to collectors, these cards featured a distinct gold-bordered back and square corners, making them easily distinguishable from the standard-issue cards used in competitive play.

The card's original illustration was created by artist Quinton Hoover, known for his unique, flowing style that defined much of early Magic: The Gathering. Mana Short was intended to serve as a powerful tactical tool for control players, allowing them to manipulate an opponent's mana pool during their own turn. The International Collectors' Edition version remains a cherished piece of gaming history, representing an era where the game's artistic identity was still being forged.
