Swords to Plowshares

Swords to Plowshares was originally printed in the 1994 Summer Magic expansion, often referred to as Edgar. This set was intended as a corrected reprint of the earlier Revised Edition, designed to resolve various printing errors and color balance issues found in the previous iteration. Despite the intention to fix these problems, the release itself was plagued by its own distinct set of errors, leading to a limited distribution and eventual recall of the stock that had reached retailers.

The artwork for this specific version maintains the iconic aesthetic established by Jeff A. Menges for the card's debut in Limited Edition Alpha. Menges sought to visually interpret the biblical concept of turning weapons into tools of peace, utilizing a classic fantasy illustration style that became a staple of early Magic: The Gathering. While the card is mechanically identical to its predecessors, the Summer Magic print is highly sought after by collectors due to its accidental rarity and the unique historical narrative surrounding its turbulent release.
