Oath of Scholars

Oath of Scholars was released in 1998 as part of the Exodus set, the final expansion in the Rath Cycle for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set was designed to round out the block's storyline, which followed the crew of the Weatherlight as they navigated the artificial plane of Rath. The card serves as a thematic representation of the plane's pursuit of knowledge and magical prowess, functioning as a blue enchantment that allows players to draw cards if they have fewer cards in hand than an opponent.

The artwork was provided by Michael Sutfin, a prominent contributor to the game during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Sutfin’s aesthetic for the card leans into the high-fantasy, moody realism that defined the visual identity of early Magic sets.
