Orzhov Basilica

Orzhov Basilica was originally printed in the 2006 Ravnica: City of Guilds expansion, designed as a 'bounceland' that provided dual-color mana production at the cost of returning a land to the player's hand. It represents the Orzhov Syndicate, the law-and-religion guild of Ravnica known for its authoritarian structure and obsession with eternal debt. This specific iteration appears in the 2024 Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set as a reprint, featuring new art that adapts the location’s gothic architecture to fit the unsettling, retro-horror aesthetic of the Duskmourn plane.

The art for this reprint follows the thematic requirements of the Duskmourn set, which focuses on a sprawling, inescapable house filled with supernatural threats. Illustrators tasked with these reprints were challenged to recontextualize classic Magic: The Gathering locations within this confined, nightmare-driven environment. While the functionality remains identical to the original card, this version serves as a stylistic crossover, blending the traditional ecclesiastical iconography of the Orzhov with the eerie, shifting shadows and survival-horror motifs prevalent throughout the Duskmourn collection.
