Orzhov Basilica

Orzhov Basilica first appeared in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering expansion Guildpact, representing the oppressive, ecclesiastical banking guild of Ravnica. As a bounce land, it was designed to provide efficient mana fixing at the cost of tempo, requiring players to return a land to their hand upon entry. This mechanic reflects the guild's bureaucratic and transactional nature, forcing players to manage their resources with the same cold precision associated with the Orzhov Syndicate.

The art was originally created by Greg Staples, who rendered the Basilica as a towering, Gothic-inspired cathedral dripping with dark opulence and ghostly influence. The inclusion of this card in The List—a curated selection of reprinted cards inserted into modern booster packs—serves to keep thematic staples available for Commander players. It remains a hallmark of Orzhov-themed decks, balancing its mechanical drawback with a powerful ability to generate two colors of mana in a single land slot.
