Platinum Angel

Platinum Angel was originally introduced in the 2003 Mirrodin expansion, designed to explore the concept of state-based effect manipulation within the rules of Magic: The Gathering. As a colorless artifact creature, it was engineered to shift the fundamental victory conditions of the game, providing a unique safety net that prevents its controller from losing as long as the card remains on the battlefield. The design by the Wizards of the Coast development team was intended to create high-stakes tension, making the creature a primary removal target for any opponent.

The 2010 version, printed for the Magic 2010 core set, features art by Brom, a renowned fantasy illustrator known for his dark and atmospheric aesthetic. His depiction of the Angel maintains the ethereal, metallic nature of the Mirrodin original while grounding it in the updated visual language of the 2010 core set. The card was well-received by players for its iconic status as one of the few cards in the game capable of completely nullifying the standard loss condition, solidifying its place as a staple in casual formats and a distinct strategic piece in control decks.
