Provenance

Where it came from

The Island card from the Magic 2010 (M10) core set was released in July 2009. This set marked a significant transition for the game, as it was the first core set to include new cards alongside reprints, signaling a shift toward more thematic and narrative-driven design. The card was part of a cycle of basic lands intended to provide a cohesive visual identity for the M10 environment, emphasizing the classic, elemental nature of Magic's core mechanics.

The artwork for this specific Island was created by the acclaimed fantasy illustrator John Avon. Known for his expansive, atmospheric landscapes, Avon sought to capture a serene, ethereal quality in this design. His work on this card was widely praised by the community for its vibrant color palette and technical mastery, quickly becoming a favorite among players for its beauty and readability during gameplay.
