Prodigal Sorcerer

Prodigal Sorcerer, colloquially known as 'Tim' to the Magic: The Gathering community, was first printed in the 1993 Alpha core set as a common creature. Its design, characterized by the ability to ping targets for one damage, became a staple of blue control decks and a quintessential example of the game's early color-pie distribution. The card remained a cornerstone of the game's identity throughout the nineties, representing the tactical utility of low-cost, repeatable damage.

This specific iteration hails from the 1999 Battle Royale Box Set, a product designed to showcase the competitive history of Magic by pitting classic control strategies against aggressive ones. The card features updated frame aesthetics typical of that era of reprints while maintaining the original illustration by Douglas Shuler. As part of a boxed set intended for casual play and historical appreciation, it served to reintroduce iconic cards to a newer generation of players who had missed the initial limited print runs.
