Prodigal Sorcerer

Prodigal Sorcerer, colloquially known as Tim, is one of the most recognizable cards in Magic: The Gathering, first appearing in the Alpha set of 1993. This specific version from the 2016 Eternal Masters set serves as a curated reprint designed for limited play environments, reflecting the game's shift toward high-power drafting experiences. Its inclusion in Eternal Masters was intended to preserve the utility of classic, cost-effective creatures while updating their aesthetic presentation for a modern era.

The art for this iteration was created by Kev Walker, a prolific contributor to the game whose style is noted for its high contrast and dramatic character focus. Walker’s rendition moves away from the whimsical, older interpretations of the character, opting instead for a more weathered and intense depiction of a spellcaster. Upon its release in Eternal Masters, the card was well-received by veterans for its nostalgic value and by newer players for its straightforward, illustrative utility in blue-based control archetypes.
