Selesnya Sanctuary

Selesnya Sanctuary was originally printed in the Ravnica: City of Guilds set in 2005, designed as part of a cycle of 'bouncelands' that offered powerful mana fixing at the cost of returning a land to the player's hand. Its inclusion in the Commander 2011 product series reflected its enduring status as a staple for multi-color decks in the Commander format, providing an efficient way to manage land drops while generating two colors of mana.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Martina Pilcerova, who contributed extensively to the Ravnica block. Her design for the sanctuary captures the lush, architectural aesthetic of the Selesnya Conclave, emphasizing the guild's focus on harmonious growth and nature-integrated urban design. Upon its release, the card was widely received as a fundamental utility piece, valued by players for its ability to provide card parity and color consistency in slower, multiplayer-focused games.
