Provenance

Where it came from

The Sengir Vampire from the Summer Magic set, internally referred to as 'Edgar,' is one of the most storied anomalies in trading card game history. Printed in 1994 as a corrected replacement for the Revised Edition, the set was intended to address widespread errors in the previous print run. However, a series of manufacturing mishaps at the United States Playing Card Company resulted in a very limited number of these cards reaching the public, with the vast majority of the stock ordered to be destroyed by Wizards of the Coast.

The design features the classic Jesper Myrfors illustration, which captures the gothic, brooding aesthetic that defined the early era of Magic: The Gathering. As part of the Summer Magic set, this iteration is distinguished by its specific color saturation and the inclusion of the copyright date, which was notably absent from other versions of the card. Because of its accidental rarity and the chaotic circumstances of its distribution, it has become a profound point of interest for historians of the game, representing a 'lost' chapter of its development.
