Provenance

Where it came from

The Squid token was released in 2022 as part of the Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were designed to represent the specific creature created by the 'Neptune's Bounty' or similar card effects within the set, serving as a functional piece for gameplay mechanics focused on Dungeons & Dragons lore.

The illustration was crafted to fit the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Baldur's Gate setting, emphasizing the creature's bioluminescent and oceanic nature. Like other tokens in this supplemental set, it was intended to bridge the gap between traditional card-game mechanics and the immersive storytelling of the tabletop roleplaying game it represents.
