Llanowar Elves appeared as card number 211 in the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This set was produced by Wizards of the Coast as a corrective print run intended to replace the flawed Revised Edition, which suffered from washed-out colors and printing errors. Despite its intention to fix these issues, the print run itself was plagued by its own unique manufacturing mistakes and was intended to be destroyed, though a small number of copies escaped into the secondary market.

The card features the original illustration by Anson Maddocks, which depicts the iconic mana-producing creature in a classic fantasy style. This design was chosen for its simplicity and immediate readability, setting a visual standard for the character that persisted for decades within Magic: The Gathering.
