Llanowar Elves

Llanowar Elves appeared in the 1994 Summer Magic set, technically known as the Edgar set. This release was intended to be a corrected reprint of the Revised Edition, addressing numerous errors, misprints, and color inconsistencies present in the earlier core set. Despite the intention to fix these issues, the production run was marred by its own unique printing errors and was largely destroyed by Wizards of the Coast before wide release, leading to a very small number of cards reaching the market.

The artwork for this version was provided by Anson Maddocks, a foundational artist for the game whose style helped define the early aesthetic of Magic: The Gathering. His depiction of the Llanowar Elves captures the classic fantasy archetype of a forest-dwelling sentinel, utilizing a gritty, hand-drawn aesthetic characteristic of the era. The card has remained a staple in the game's design history, serving as a benchmark for green mana acceleration for decades.
