Swamp

The 1999 World Championship Decks were released by Wizards of the Coast to allow players to replicate the experience of professional-level play. These decks were near-exact replicas of the lists used by the top eight finalists at the 1999 Magic: The Gathering World Championship held in Tokyo. Because they were intended for display and casual play rather than tournament use, these cards feature gold-bordered frames and a distinctive back design that prevents them from being shuffled into standard decks.

The art featured on this specific card is the classic Swamp illustration by Rob Alexander, a prolific contributor to the game's early aesthetic. Alexander's work is celebrated for its evocative, painterly approach to landscape, which grounded the fantasy setting of the game in a tangible sense of place. While the original Swamp art appeared in base sets, this specific printing serves as a nostalgic touchstone for collectors of the 1999 championship era, representing the high-water mark of competitive Magic during the late nineties.
