Terror

Terror is a quintessential black-aligned removal spell in Magic: The Gathering, first appearing in the Alpha set in 1993. As a core component of the game's original design, it was intended to provide a straightforward and efficient way for players to destroy non-artifact, non-black creatures. Its inclusion in 'The List'—a rotating selection of cards from the game's history inserted into modern booster packs—serves to highlight its status as a foundational piece of Magic's mechanical identity.

The 10E-182 designation refers to the version printed in the Tenth Edition core set, released in 2007. The artwork for this specific iteration was illustrated by Kev Walker, whose signature style emphasizes the visceral, dark fantasy aesthetic that defined the card's theme. During the Tenth Edition era, Terror was widely considered a benchmark for functional, balanced removal, and its recurring presence in the game’s various iterations demonstrates its enduring importance in the evolution of the black color pie.
