What it does
As long as this creature is untapped, all damage that would be dealt to you by unblocked creatures is dealt to this creature instead.
Good bodyguards are hard to find, mainly because they don't live long.

Where it came from
The Veteran Bodyguard card originated from the International Collectors' Edition (ICE), a 1993 box set designed as an introductory product for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Created by Wizards of the Coast, this set was intended to make rare cards from the game's initial print runs more accessible to collectors, though the cards were printed with a distinct gold-bordered back to differentiate them from the tournament-legal versions.
The card features artwork by Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous illustrations to the early sets of the game. The aesthetic reflects the high-fantasy tradition established in the game's earliest years, characterized by a utilitarian focus on the creature's defensive role. While the ICE set was initially met with mixed reactions due to its non-tournament status, it has since become a significant historical touchstone for documenting the early visual language and card design philosophy of the game.
