Where it came from
Web was released in 1998 as part of the International Collectors' Edition (ICE), a specific print run designed primarily for the European market. Unlike the standard base set of the time, cards in this series featured a distinctive gold-colored border on the back, distinguishing them from domestic releases and marking a period where the manufacturer was experimenting with regional distribution strategies for a rapidly growing global player base.
The card features an illustration by Dan Frazier, whose work is synonymous with the early aesthetic of the game. Frazier sought to capture the ethereal and ensnaring nature of the spell through stark, organic linework that emphasized the theme of entrapment. While the card itself is mechanically straightforward, it remains a notable piece of late-nineties design that reflects the transition toward more stylized and thematic fantasy art within the collectible gaming space.
