Provenance

Where it came from

The International Collectors' Edition (ICE) Island was released in 1993 as part of a non-tournament-legal boxed set intended for the European market. It was designed to provide players with a comprehensive collection of cards from the early sets of Magic: The Gathering, specifically featuring the iconic artwork of Christopher Rush, whose depiction of the Island remains one of the most recognizable and enduring landscapes in the game's history.

The design of this specific iteration is characterized by a distinctive gold-bordered back, which served to distinguish these cards from their tournament-legal counterparts. While the set was initially received with some confusion regarding its utility, it has since become a significant piece of trading card history, valued by collectors for its aesthetic clarity and its preservation of the original artistic vision that defined the nascent stages of the game.
