Edward.Newgate

The Edward Newgate card from the Paramount War set (OP02-001) was released as part of the second expansion for the One Piece Card Game. Debuting in late 2022, this set was designed to reflect the dramatic events of the Marineford Arc, a pivotal storyline where Newgate—the legendary Whitebeard—commands his crew in a desperate attempt to rescue his protégé, Portgas D. Ace. As a leader card, it represents the high-stakes, aggressive strategy central to his character, emphasizing his role as an unwavering captain whose power comes at the cost of his own long-term endurance.

The card features artwork consistent with the series' aesthetic, capturing Newgate’s imposing silhouette and signature white coat. Designers aimed to translate his 'World's Strongest Man' status into game mechanics, resulting in a card that dominated the early competitive meta. Upon its release, it was lauded by players for its balance of raw offensive capability and the thematic flavor of a captain fighting a losing battle against time and injury, cementing its status as an iconic piece of the early One Piece Card Game collection.
