Chant Grégorien - Les Matines De Noël = グレゴリオ聖歌 - クリスマス(主の御降誕の大祝日)の朝課

This recording of Christmas Matins features the Monks of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes, a monastery in France that has served as the global epicenter for the study and performance of Gregorian chant since the 19th century. Under the direction of Dom Joseph Gajard, who served as choirmaster for over four decades, the choir aimed to restore the purity and rhythmic nuances of early liturgical music, grounding their interpretation in the Solesmes method of semiology.

The 1978 release on the IPG label represents a later period of the ensemble's extensive discography, which brought medieval chant to a broad, international audience during the mid-20th century. Dom Gajard's work is widely considered the definitive standard for the genre, valued for its restrained, meditative quality and its commitment to the authentic restoration of the liturgical tradition, which has influenced scholars and choral directors for generations.
