Senegal, La Kora Vol.2

Released in 1976 on the French label Arion, Senegal: La Kora Vol. 2 captures the virtuosic mastery of Lamine Konté, a renowned Senegalese griot and kora player. This recording was part of Arion's mission to document traditional music from across the globe, bringing the intricate, meditative sounds of the West African kora to a wider international audience during a period of burgeoning interest in world music.

The album serves as a definitive showcase of Konté's technical proficiency and his role as a cultural ambassador for Senegalese music. Eschewing heavy studio production for a sparse, intimate sound, the design and recording focus entirely on the delicate resonance of the 21-string harp. The release was well-regarded by ethnomusicologists and enthusiasts for its clarity and the authentic preservation of traditional Mandinka repertoire, solidifying its place as a staple for collectors of African folk music.
