Where it came from
The 2 Leva coin featuring King Boris III of Bulgaria was minted in 1925 during a period of significant transition for the Bulgarian monetary system. Following the turbulence of the post-World War I era, these coins were issued as part of the stabilization efforts under the Bulgarian National Bank, replacing earlier wartime scrip and helping to re-establish a formal metallic currency standard for the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
The design reflects the monarchist iconography common to the Balkan states during the interwar period. The obverse depicts the profile of Tsar Boris III, whose reign was marked by efforts to navigate complex regional politics, while the reverse features traditional heraldic elements and the state denomination. The coin was produced in cupro-nickel, a pragmatic choice for a country navigating economic recovery, and it remains a representative example of early 20th-century Bulgarian numismatic history.
