Oltretomba #37

Oltretomba was a long-running Italian horror comic series published by Edizioni ErreGì beginning in the early 1970s. This series belonged to the 'fumetti neri' genre, which flourished in Italy during that decade, characterized by its focus on macabre themes, supernatural horror, and erotic undertones. Issue number 37 reflects the anthology format common to the series, where readers were presented with standalone tales of terror, gothic atmosphere, and dark suspense designed to captivate a mature audience.

The visual language of the series was defined by stark black-and-white art, emphasizing high-contrast shadows to enhance the eerie storytelling. Like many independent horror comics of its time, the creative teams often utilized anonymous or pseudonymous contributors, prioritizing the delivery of pulp-inspired chills over individual artistic branding. While the series did not achieve the same mainstream cultural canonization as titles like Diabolik or Kriminal, it remains a notable example of the period's commitment to gritty, low-cost gothic narratives.
