Oltretomba #4

Oltretomba was a prominent Italian horror comic series launched in the early 1970s by Edizioni ErreGì. During this period, the Italian publishing market was saturated with 'fumetti neri' or black comics, which thrived on darker themes of crime, supernatural horror, and eroticism. Issue number four fits squarely into this era, serving as a pocket-sized anthology of macabre tales designed for adult readers who were drawn to the gritty, transgressive aesthetic that defined the genre's cultural peak in post-war Italy.

The visual identity of Oltretomba was defined by a collective of artists who prioritized atmospheric, high-contrast black-and-white illustrations to enhance the sinister tone of the scripts. Like many of its contemporaries, the series utilized a pulp-style production approach, emphasizing lurid cover art and fast-paced, episodic storytelling. While the specific creative credits for individual issues were often obscured by house pseudonyms or shared studio workflows, the series remains recognized as a quintessential example of the low-brow horror subculture that influenced European comic art throughout the mid-twentieth century.
