Where it came from
Published in July 1962, The Incredible Hulk #2 marked a significant tonal shift for the character, transitioning him from the gray-skinned protagonist of the debut issue to the iconic green figure recognized today. Created by the powerhouse team of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the issue was produced during the burgeoning era of the Marvel Age, where creators sought to infuse superheroes with more human flaws and complex personal burdens.
The design of this issue reflected the experimental nature of Marvel's early publishing phase, featuring a cover by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko that emphasized the Hulk's newfound vibrant coloration. While the series struggled to find its footing and was initially canceled after only six issues, this specific installment is now highly regarded by historians for codifying the Hulk’s visual identity and establishing the recurring tropes of military pursuit that would define the character for decades to come.
