Where it came from
Released as part of the Disney Pop! series by Funko, the Rafiki with Simba figure commemorates a pivotal moment from the 1994 animated classic The Lion King. The figurine depicts the shaman baboon presenting the infant Simba to the animal kingdom atop Pride Rock, a scene that has become iconic in cinematic history. This piece was designed to translate the film's distinct character animation into Funko's signature stylized aesthetic, characterized by a large head and simplified, deconstructed features.
The figure serves as a nostalgic tribute to the Renaissance era of Disney animation. During its initial release, it was aimed at collectors and fans of the franchise seeking to immortalize the emotional depth of the film's opening sequence. The reception among the collecting community was generally positive, as it captured the essence of the characters' expressions while adhering to the uniform design language that established the Pop! line as a staple of contemporary pop culture collectibles.
