Where it came from
Splinter was released as part of the initial wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures in the Pop! Television line. Produced by Funko, the figure depicts the wise mutant rat and sensei to the turtles, drawing his aesthetic from the iconic 1987 animated series. The design utilizes the standard oversized head and simplified, stylized features that define the Funko aesthetic, intended to capture the character's signature purple robes and calm, observant posture.
Upon its release, the figure became a staple for collectors of 90s nostalgia. As with many figures in the early Pop! Television series, the Splinter design was lauded for its accessible, minimalist take on beloved childhood characters. It reflects the broader initiative by Funko during the mid-2010s to expand their reach into legacy animation franchises, ultimately becoming a widely recognized piece of merchandise for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles enthusiasts.
