Provenance

Where it came from

The Angel token from the Shadows over Innistrad set was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2016 as part of the Innistrad block's return to its gothic horror roots. These tokens were designed to represent the spectral and protective entities summoned by various spells and abilities within the game, serving as a visual touchstone for the set's themes of dread, light, and corruption.

The artwork for this specific token was created by Johannes Voss, a prominent illustrator in the Magic: The Gathering community. His design aesthetic for this piece emphasized ethereal beauty and light, providing a stark, hopeful contrast to the decaying and cursed atmosphere typical of the Innistrad plane, which helped establish the token as a favorite among collectors and players for its evocative, painterly style.
