Where it came from
Authority of the Consuls was originally released as a rare enchantment in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Kaladesh, designed as a mechanical tool to disrupt aggressive strategies by tapping incoming creatures and gaining life. The card represents the rigid bureaucracy of the Consuls, the ruling body of the city of Ghirapur, which enforces strict control over the world's invention-focused society.
This specific iteration, card number 137p, is a promotional version released within the Foundations Promos collection. These promotional treatments frequently utilize alternate art or specialized frames to distinguish them from standard set cards, catering to players and collectors who value visual variations of iconic utility spells that remain staples in competitive formats like Commander.
