Where it came from
The Bird token, numbered 2 in the Commander 2019 token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in August 2019. It was designed to support the specific mechanics introduced in the Commander 2019 preconstructed decks, particularly those featuring white-aligned cards capable of generating flying creature tokens. These tokens were produced to provide players with a physical representation of game-state modifications during gameplay.
The artwork for this token adheres to the aesthetic standards established for the Commander 2019 release, focusing on a clear, functional depiction of the creature type to ensure readability on the battlefield. As with other tokens in this release, it was illustrated by in-house or contracted artists tasked with maintaining thematic consistency across the product line. It was received by the player base as a standard, utilitarian accessory essential for the efficient management of Commander games.
