Provenance

Where it came from

The Bird token was released in 2023 as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It serves as a supplementary piece used during gameplay to represent creatures generated by various spells and abilities within the set, such as those found on cards like Song of Totentanz. The token is part of a broader design initiative by Wizards of the Coast to create thematic, functional artwork that complements the high-fantasy, storybook aesthetic of the Eldraine plane.

The artwork for this specific token was commissioned to align with the visual identity of Wilds of Eldraine, which draws heavily from European folklore and fairy tales. The design seeks to evoke a sense of whimsical naturalism consistent with the set's setting. As a standard inclusion in booster packs, the token was received as a practical utility item for players, valued primarily for its clarity in game states rather than for rarity or secondary market prestige.
