Zombie

The Zombie token, numbered 10 in the Commander 2019 token set, was released by Wizards of the Coast to support the mechanics introduced in the 2019 Commander expansion. These tokens are functional accessories designed to represent the undead creatures created by various black-aligned cards within the set, such as those featured in the 'Faceless Menace' and 'Merciless Rage' decks. By providing dedicated physical representations for these creatures, Wizards aimed to streamline gameplay and reduce the confusion that often arises when players must track multiple temporary board states.

The visual aesthetic of this token follows the established dark fantasy style found throughout the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. It depicts a decaying, shambling figure, intended to evoke the classic horror tropes associated with the necrotic theme. Like most tokens in the Commander preconstructed product line, this piece is characterized by its utilitarian design, prioritizing clear visual recognition for players during fast-paced tabletop matches, and it reflects the consistent art direction maintained by the game's creative team during this era of development.
